Publication Date: 2015-05-12","This collection of feminist publications includes newspapers, newsletters, and magazines from state and national organizations from 1970 to 1984. The materials were mailed to the K-State Women's Resource Center and sociology faculty member Cornelia Flora. The Feminist Publications include fifty-four newspapers published between the years of 1970-1985 focusing on the issues of importance to activists in the later years of second-wave feminism. They confront hegemonic ideology and societal issues with an intersectional feminist lens. The overall theme of the publications is equality for women and ending the oppressions attached to the social constructions of gender, race, class, and sexuality. The publications have news about political activism, reviews of feminist works, poetry, artwork, and a letter written by Angela Davis to Ericka Huggins. Articles like “Jail is no solution, jobs and housing will end Prostitution”, “Slavery in America”, “Kiss and Tell Campaign”, “Health and Medical Care in North Vietnam”, “20,000 families going hungry in Seattle”, and “no more kids in chemical straight-jackets” can be found in this collection. The publications promote the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment), Roe vs. Wade and reproductive justice, economic freedom, civil rights, gay and lesbian liberation, healthcare, welfare, free 24 hours child-care, and medical self-help material for women. These publications are fighting against systematic oppression, sexual assault, injustices of welfare and healthcare, anti-reproductive justice movements, domestic abuse, racism, classism, ableism, sexism, capitalism, heteronormativity, colonialism, militarism, and fascism. In addition to the Feminist Publications includes three newspapers: the furies: lesbian/feminist monthly, off our backs, and N.O.W Times published between the years of 1972-1985 focusing on the issues of importance to activists in the later years of second-wave feminism. These publications confront hegemonic ideology and societal issues with an intersectional feminist lens. The furies dissect heteronormativity and male supremacy. N.O.W Times fights against patriarchal values. Off our backs examines gender, class, race, and international issues. We have one copy of the furies: lesbian/feminist monthly, vol. 1 Jan. 1972. The furies publication lasted 2 years focusing on lesbian issues and male supremacy. The furies publication we have includes works like \"Roxane Dunbar: how a female heterosexual serves the interest of male supremacy\", \"Lesbians in Revolt\", \"Male Supremacy Quakes and Quivers\", \"Queen Christina Lesbian Ruler of Sweden\", and \"Nixon's Solution\". Off our backs (OOB) is a nonprofit organization that published news journals from 1970-2008 by, for, and about women. Our collection of OOB highlights various women's issues including civil rights, health, reproductive justice, imprisonment, labor, and violence during 1981-1985. OOB also provides readers international feminist news, an example, March 1982's issue discusses Encuentra Feminista (1st Latin American Feminist Conference), March Against Women Abuse in the Virgin Islands, Lavendar Komono: Lesbian Feminism in Japan, and the imprisonment of feminist Lu Hsiu Lien in Taiwan and a review of her work New Feminism. OOB includes reviews of feminist writings like articles by Audre Lorde and publishes poetry and other written works. N.O.W Times the National Organization of Women's Publications is concentrated on feminist activism and informing women of their rights. N.O.W. Times promotes political change and informs about the political news that affects women in the U.S. There are articles about Roe vs. Wade, pro-choice rallies, the Parental and Disability Leave Act in Congress, supporting the Marvel boycotts, and protesting Reagan's administration. N.O.W Times emphasizes the ongoing struggle to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and follows the women in politics during the late 70's-mid '80s.","The researcher assumes full responsibility for observing all copyright, property, and libel laws as they apply.","Richard L. He was raised in New Jersey and moved to Ohio in 1933 to attend Oberlin College for two years. Dick received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1938 before attending the University of Chicago (1938-1939), Columbia University (during the summer of 1940), and Iowa State College, where he earned a doctorate in consumption economics in 1942. Following distinguished service with the U.S. Navy on the Pacific front during World War II, Morse held teaching positions at Iowa State College (1945–1947), Florida State University (1947–1955), and Kansas State University (1955–1987), where he served as professor and head of the Department of Household Economics (later Family Economics). He married Marjorie Johnson in Oklahoma in 1943 while on leave from the U.S. Navy. They had three daughters, Nancy, Mary, and Susan. With a background in family and home economics, Morse served as a lifelong advocate for families and consumers and, eventually, became nationally and internationally known as an expert in the field of protecting consumer rights. Many of Morse's most notable accomplishments involved his tireless efforts to have legislation passed on the federal and state levels to benefit citizens in the areas of truth-in-savings and truth-in-lending, including serving as a consumer and banking counselor for the United States Congress and Presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. A \"crusader\" for the consumer, Morse held numerous important positions on the local, regional, and national levels including, President of Consumer Education and Protection Association for Kansans, twenty years of service on the Board of Directors of Consumers Union, appointee to Presidents John Kennedy’s and Lyndon Johnson’s U.S. Consumer Advisory Council, a founding member of the Kansas Citizens Council on Aging, member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, and Commissioner of the Manhattan Urban Renewal Agency. In 1987, Morse donated his personal papers to the Special Collections Department of Kansas State University Libraries and collaborated with the staff to establish the Consumer Movement Archives as a repository for the collections of consumer leaders and organizations. Following his retirement from K-State in 1987, Dick and wife, Marjorie, dedicated their time and energy to improving the K-State Libraries through their service as co-chairs of the Essential Edge fund-raising campaign (1988–1993), leaders in the Friends of the K-State Libraries organization, and by enhancing the collections and programs of the Special Collections Department. In recognition of their financial support of Special Collections and involvement with the Consumer Movement Archives, the Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections was named in their honor in 1997. During K-State's commencement activities in 2000, the College of Human Ecology bestowed its initial Public Policy Award upon Dick, and a Marjorie J. and Richard L. D. family of Kansas is a branch of the distinguished and widely-extended American Dodge family, which descends from two branches of the English Dodge family, one from Richard Dodge (1602-1671) and his brother William Dodge (c. 1604-1685), and the other from Tristram Dodge (c.1628-1683), relation unknown. The Kansan Dodge family can be traced back with reasonable certainty to Richard Dodge, who settled in Massachusetts. Major General Grenville M. Dodge, the eponym of Fort Dodge and Dodge City, Kansas, is descended of John Dodge (c. 1631-1711), son of Richard Dodge and the elder brother of Joseph Dodge (1651-1716), from whom the Kansan Dodges are descended. The Dodge family arrived in Kansas when Orlando A. Dodge (1824-1897), originally from Ohio, left Illinois for a Blue River farm in Manhattan Township (Riley County), north of Manhattan, Kansas, which he settled with his first wife, Phebe, who died in 1872. He subsequently married Olive Pickett and sired six children in addition to his first five with Phebe. After losing the Blue River farm in a horse race bet, Orlando Dodge settled the 440-acre Springdale farm on Tuttle Creek in the Sedalia neighborhood, where he became one of the early members of the Sedalia Presbyterian Church (renamed the Sedalia Community Church in 1964). Olivia Pickett Dodge was a charter member of the Sedalia Church, and served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. William Pickett Dodge (1877-1966), the eldest son of the union of Orlando \u0026 Olivia Dodge, and the sixth-born offspring of Orlando Dodge, was born and raised in Sedalia. He wed Faith Adella Cooper, daughter of Hugh McFadden and Anna Cooper of Sedalia, who were also charter members of the Sedalia Presbyterian Church.
