General note

Pakistan Children Cooking Laundry Women.
Child being measured and weighed: In some training centers, it was possible to get a height weight scales to weigh and measure village children as one indication of health.
Women using an oven: Trying out a home made oven made form an oil tin we were able to do some simple baking i.e. cookies in Pakistan.
Border with wash board and man: We shippedin some wash boards from Sears in Pakistan. They made them out of local wood. We also used - pluming plungers and tried to copy them from natural materials.
Mary Border and woman with fruit: Canning fruit and vegetables only at schools where there was gas or a covered and controlled heat.
Mary Border and family cooking: Drying beans in the village. since presevering fruits and vegetables by canning was difficult without controlled heat, drying was promoted.
Woman teaching other village women: In Pakistan a missionary made a Chala (copied from India) stove to get cooking up off the ground. A missionary in Pakistan and I tried to improve the stove. Many women were suffering from sitting on the ground leaning over the fire to cook. "Caev Chips" had to be broken in small pieces to burn in this small space. We used chacoal in our demonstration.
Woman washing clothes: To replace beating on a stone in the river with a stick, we brought in American made wash boards. In Pakistan they have copied from all Shisham wood. Another problem was of course to get the women off the ground when the clothes they were wearing would get especially dirty.
