Oct 24. Letter to Father from Springfield, describes conditions in fox hole and constant bombardments but no direct hits; explainns how bad dysentery was and how men tried to use it as an excuse to be relieved; mentions German planes that would fly over. Describes the mess their regimental and brigade headquarters were in; colonel and brigadier general were removed. With replacements came order for a new attack even though they had been losing men everyday and those left not fit to fight. At end of letter asks if Richard Long has any chance of beating Coolidge in the election. Mentions the Saturday Evening Post article and the mythical soldier returning home and how article isn’t accurate; tells parents how he appreciated all that they had done for him.
