General note

Nov 4. Letter to Father from Springfield; begins by writing that a year ago on Nov. 2 his battalion was pulled back to Cote de Chatillon, exactly where they were on Oct. 10; discusses sanitary conditions and the “cooties” in his underwear; his bunk mate had been faking his way to different hospitals to keep out of combat for some time, finally arrested and placed in his battalion as a prisoner; on Nov. 4 tremendous bombardment began from their artillery; they followed their second division forward to find that Germans had withdrawn destroying roads, bridges, and railroads; mentions being told not to eat the vegetables they found because a Lt. Colonel said they had been gassed which he said was a lie; bottom of last page torn and missing.
