Series 2: Interview Transcripts and Tapes

This series contains records pertaining to interviews about the College of Veterinary Medicine. The vast majority of this series consists of interviews of alumni for the history book, “A Century of Excellence: Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine” by Howard H. Erickson and Ronnie G. Elmore. In addition to printed transcripts and cassette, microcassette, and VHS tape recordings of interviews, there are also drafts of “A Century of Excellence” in this series. The interviews and other materials for this book span from 1905 to the book’s publication in 2005. There is also a CD copy that was ordered in 2007 containing some of the information pertinent to this project.

Series 2: Conference and Non-Credit Programs

This series contains programs from the years 1980 – 2007. Files consist of information related to conferences, training programs, and non-traditional studies that occurred in relationship to K-State and outside universities. Files possess materials related to conference and program agendas, enrollment and attendee lists, budget and financial information, speaker presentations, brochures and pamphlets, correspondence related to conferences and programs, and promotional materials. Series 2: Department of Applied Human Science

The Department of Applied Human Science includes several programs, including Communication Sciences & Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Science Education, Human Development and Family Science, and Integrative Human Sciences. This series includes the reorganization of 1990 that proposed to eliminate the College of Health and Human Sciences and the College of Architecture. There is correspondence regarding program mergers. Photos and news clippings from the child development lab to the protests from the 1990 reorganization. Plans and correspondence regarding the home management houses are included. This department was created by the merger of the Department of Family Economics and the Department of Family and Child Development in 1985 which created the Department of Human Development & Family Studies. The name changed to Applied Human Science in 2020.

Series 1: Dean's Office

This series includes correspondence between Dean's and other faculty and students. Majority of the correspondence documents are from Dean Barbara Stowe between the years of 1989-1998. Dean's academic council minutes and other documents are included. Ms. Jane Barnes' scrapbooks of "Highlights in History" are included from when she served as assistant to the Dean. Reports from conferences that Dean's attended are included. Biennial and centennial reports for the college.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee series consists of 3 boxes ranging from 1956-2012.The Executive Committee is a sub-committee within Faculty senate. This series consists of meeting minutes, agendas, and overall general notes pertaining to the committee. Along with minutes and agendas from the graduate council.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Records

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering series contains three boxes consisting of material from the department. It includes faculty portraits, class profiles, Rathbone Hall construction photos, graduate and faculty meeting minutes, an Electrical Engineering Scrapbook, and various pictures and slides documenting different activities and student organizations including Engineering Open House and the Engineering Advisory Council.

Series 6: Photographs

This series contains photographs of a variety of subjects related to the College of Veterinary Medicine between 1898-2014. These materials fall into the following categories: people, buildings, animals, labs, events, miscellaneous photos, and oversize photos.

The photos of people include faculty, staff, students, and other notable individuals. Specifically, this category contains dean’s portraits, portraits of scholarship donors like Louis and Norma Jane Ball, alumni groups and portraits, class composites, ID and yearbook photos (including portraits and candids for faculty, staff, and students), photos of Willie the Wildcat, and photos of Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association members.

Photos of buildings include diagrams of buildings, as well as photos of buildings during construction, renovation, and after completion. There are photos of the KSU campus, the Veterinary Medicine Complex and campus, the Instructional Technology Center, the Anti-Hog Cholera Serum Plant, and the Veterinary Hospital, as well as Anderson Hall, Dykstra Hall, Mosier Hall, Trotter Hall, and Coles Hall.

Animal photos largely consist of lab animals, farm animals, and pets.

Lab photos depict workspaces and procedures carried out by the College of Veterinary Medicine, like surgery, meat inspection, and clinical pathobiology labs. The subjects of these labs were all animals.

Veterinary Medicine events in this series include open houses, alumni reunions, conferences (like the June Conference and the Annual Conference for Veterinarians), and Cat Town (currently referred to as Vet Town).

Miscellaneous photos include unlabeled or unidentified images, as well as photos of documents, the Veterinary Unit of the Reserve Officers’ training Corps, and additionally photos related to the International Agriculture Programs, Agency for International Development, and Ahmadu Bello University.

Lastly, there are a handful of oversize photos which mostly range from 1907-1964 that depict students, faculty, anatomy class, the first Annual Veterinary Conference, the Veterinary Hospital, Dykstra Hall, the Anti-Hog Cholera Serum Plant, the Trotter Hall Library renovation diagrams, and a Kansas Legislature poster.

Series 4: Video Materials, CDs, and Tapes

This series contains audio and visual material related to the College of Veterinary Medicine during 1907-2014 on CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, microcassette tapes, VHS tapes, and film reels. In Administrative Records, there is a film catalogue that may list some of the materials in this series. The CDs largely contain photographs and portrait backups. The DVDs contain recordings of events like talent shows, commencement, alumni fellow presentations in the Historical Perspectives series, and interviews. There is also a teaching aid DVD, as well as a College of Veterinary virtual tour DVD. The cassette and microcassette tapes are largely recordings of interviews for the history book, “A Century of Excellence: Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine” by Howard H. Erickson and Ronnie G. Elmore (see Series 2: Interview Transcripts and Tapes for more information). The VHS tapes contain recordings of tribute videos and interviews for “A Century of Excellence,” as well as events like award nominations, award ceremonies, dedication ceremonies, and alumni fellow presentations in the Historical Perspectives series. The film rolls/movie reels are unlabeled and it is unclear exactly what they contain. The majority of this material is dated between 1980-2010, as most of the content that predates that period only pertains to “A Century of Excellence.”

Faculty Senate Meeting Records

The Faculty Senate Meeting Records series consists of 12 boxes ranging from 1952-2016.This series contains meeting minutes and agendas from Faculty senate along with generalized notes that pertain to the overall senate.

Workshops

Contains one box that is filled with information regarding Big 8/Big 12 Senior Student Affairs Workshops from 1998-2011 and other workshops from 2001 - 2017.
